Chanel Bathroom Set | Britain has a lot to answer when you are looking at state housing. I had an associate that lived over a council estate which has been clearly designed to remind the inhabitants of the station in life. The buildings were pre-war dark bricked edifices with narrow stair wells and dark corners. The waist-high walls with the wind-swept corridors were brick and punctuated every few meters having a small opening covered in iron bars. Every time I visited this friend I would leave feeling quite depressed and breathed a sigh of relief when I got back to my humble but well lit and open home several miles away.
So you can imagine my surprise when on visiting Bolzano – a little alpine town in Italy, I discovered that their state housing looked more like a personal block which you may discover in the greater parts of London.
The buildings had light coloured exteriors and enormous balconies, covered in window baskets so the tenants could fill them with colour. And this they did with gusto. They were lovely and go to demonstrate that basic things needn’t be unattractive knowning that as we invested more hours in good design we can lift the spirits of the less fortunate than ourselves.
I noticed the same thing with another latin proponent of excellent design. This time it had been a Spanish Bathroom manufacturer called Roca, who’s basic 4 Piece Bathroom set referred to as the Roca Polo implies that basic doesn’t always have to mean unattractive, or lacking quality. The simple toilet and basin have been designed to look great in pretty much any environment but weren’t over engineered, so they’re still eminently affordable.

So there it’s. Manufacturers and architects be aware. Good design makes people happy. End of rant.
